How the Heroes Met

Not many of you know how the heroes started out, but that’s what I’m here for. By order of the king, I’ve been tasked with making a record…You know, for historical reasons. Which is kinda nice, since I kept a journal back then. Now, when the heroes first started out, if you want to call them that, they definitely were not the epic warriors legend reveres them as today.

Also, bear with me, my hand writing back then was not the greatest, any journal after this might be a little hard to read.

Unfortunately, I don’t know exactly how they met, as I wasn’t in the picture quite yet, but I have this on good account (mind you, this is what Noostrom told me while hiking across the country.)

Okay, here goes, word for word what Noostrom told me:

“T’was a dark and stormy night whence we first met. Lord Remington, a rich noble who sponsored gladiators in the arena, was throwing a party for Zeta, who had just become the champion gladiator of the arena. Zeta, Mako, Stratnos, Phedra, Vadric, and I all met during the party.

All was going fine until a horde of bandits came crashing through the mansion’s windows! Instantly killing several nobles, the bandits, led by a man called Gareth, ordered the remaining people to give them their money and valuables.

Then, the lot of us came together in arms and fought back! In an extremely bloody battle, Gareth realized the might of us together was too much to handle and escaped in a puff of smoke, but not before shooting Lord Remington.

With the bandits gone, Zeta went to aid the dying Lord Remington. In his final breath, he told her that he had bought her freedom from her master, Lord DelaCroix."

After that, the heroes made their way to the Golden Chalice, the Imperial City’s best tavern. And that’s where they met me, Squintch. I’ll admit, it wasn’t under the best circumstances. I had come running into the city in search of great adventurers to save my village from these terrible bandits, called the New Darkstriders.

Then they decided to call it a night and head upstairs to their rooms in the tavern.

Helpin' Ilo

Hey, jernal, it’s Squintch again,

So, I don’ have a hole lotta time to rite at thu momen’, as we r kinda in thu middl of sumthin, but this just needs t’ be told:

Kay, so their we were. The heroes an I were hangin out in thu Goldn Chalice. Durin thu weak thay came an went, wanderin’ aroun’ thu city. Seein’ as the Chalice is one a thu onlee places my peepl r wellcum in the Umperial City, I chose ta stay there.

Then, once evereeone was good an ready, though unfortoonatelee my friend Nostroos had other stuff to attend to, they met up back in the dining area of the Goldn Chalice. While grouping up, we met too more adventurers, named Donaar and Zanne. The first was a guy dragonborn warlord, and the secun’ was a lady half-elf cleric. Seein’ as they didn’t ’ave much else to do, they decided to join us.

Finally decidin’ ta help me save Ilo before gettin’ reevenge upon there wrongdoers, I took them to my village. When we got there, Cheef Grumm told ‘em more about the attacks, letting them know they come once a week on Lovis ta get monee, and if we don’ have it, they start destroyin’ our propertee.

As we had three days til the next attack, the heroes decided to spring a trap! They would nab the bandits comin’ inta town and disgeyes ‘emselves as the bandits ta get inta the camp ithout hassle, thinkin’ that if they kill the leeder, evereeone will scramble. Settin’ up swing traps and fake floors on tha path inta Ilo, the heroes worked on what was a serprisinglee hot day for the month of Rao.

Afta three days, tha time had come! Zeta took leed, with Donaar right beeside her, geyeding our small village to there pozitions. I stood with the chief in the center of town next ta tha chest we put the bandits’ ransam in every week. Severel goblins hid in tha trees ready ta spring the swing traps, and others in the bushes to set off tha false floors on the path.

The heroes readied themselves outta sight while the remainin’ of the goblins walked aroun’ town to act like all wuz well. When the group a bandits came, they were twelve strong, with too captains leeding them on horseback, hangin’ out towards the end of the group.

When tha captains passed the swing traps, Vadric commanded them ta releese them, which knocked them offa there horses. Two other goblins on tha roofs hopped onta tha horses to not let them escape and corralled them at tha other enda town.

Then, the false floors were set off, takin’ about five bandits with ‘em. With only five grunts left and the two captains knocked down, the adventurers headed inta action! Vadric surprise attacked one of the captains, crushin’ him while he was alreadee down. Donaar took out three bandits with one blow of his fiary breath.

Zeta and Phedra went to take out the other captain and beat her while she was down. T’was a specticle to beehold. In no time, tha heroes had all but tha ladee captain down. Then serprisinglee she begged for her life. Donaar intimidated her inta helpin’ us get inta there camp.

An’ that breengs us ta now. We are takin’ a short rest an’ I’m charged with watchin’ tha ladee captain. Sheez kinda borin’ so I decided ta rite this.

Ew, I think she nows I rote that about her cuz she spit on me.

Killin' Some Bandits

So after tha heroes demolishd tha bandits raidin’ party, they took the armor from the bandits to use as disguyses. Phedra then used her changeleeng power to disguys herself as one of the too captains, with the other captain in custudee.

They then got on there horses an’ marched to tha bandit camp. Bein’ disguysed, they were able to walk on throo! The party went streight for the leeder’s tent to confrunt her, but Vadric decided to poison the food at the mess hall, since breakfast was about ta start.

Getting into tha tent was eezy, and tha heroes surpisingly convinced Wren, the leeder, to stop messin’ with us Gobbies and try to find the heroes who attacked the raiding party, because she didn’t know it was them!

Now, all was good, until the leeder decided to go get breakfast. She then found her peeple dying all over camp because of the poison! It was eezy for her to realize who the heroes were and commanded the remayning bandits ta kill them.

After a bloody battle, Wren surendered an’ vowed ta give up tha life of banditry. Everything ended well, and tha heroes left for Ilo to give Chief Gruff tha good news.

Bounty Huntin'

Afta tha whole savin’ Ilo thing, Vadric, Mako, Stratnos, and Zanne left tha partee to take care of sum bisness. So Phedra, Zeta, Noostros, and Donaar decided it wood be a good time ta join tha Northern Fighters, since gettin’ revenge against tha Dragonsreach Bandits (tha bandits who attacked them at tha mannor) wood hafta wait ’til tha others got back.

So off they went, headin’ to the Northern Fighters main house, just off tha road leading west from tha Imperial City. On there way there, assassins confrunted tha heroes! Claiming to have been sent by the House of Delacroix, they demanded we give Zeta up ta them. Decidin’ ta do exactlee tha opposite of that, tha heroes attacked! (I kinda just waited for them ta kill one another, as I’m not much of a fighter meself)

While tha assassins got sum good hits in, tha heroes sent them away crying, with a message ta leave them alone “or else”.

Continuing on, they finallee got ta the main house. Headin’ on in, they met with Crandor, the leader of the Northern Fighters. He told em that they wood hafta complete three bounties, prooving themselfs worthy to both the Fighters and the nation of Kestheus.

Grabbin’ tha first bounty available, they were sent off ta tha Imperial City, in search of a half-elf named Yali whod been skippin’ out on his fines.

Gettin’ ta the Golden Chalice, they met with Jondaar, a dragonborn with a love of cards. Winnin’ a hand against him, Jondaar gave up tha information on Yali. Afta findin’ Yali, the heroes took him to tha guard station (but not before he tried to run away, which got him taken down by Zeta). Gettin’ there reward, tha heroes decided ta call it a night and get a room in tha Chalice before goin’ back ta the Fighters main house.

True Durosians Attack Kestheus

So there we were, awaken frum our slumber that one frostee Xanyae mornin’ by tha sounds uv peeple screemin’. Not exactly a lotta fun.

After tha heroes scrambled ta get there gear on an’ rush outside, they were confronted with a group of dwarves, who call themselves the True Durisians, runnin’ through town an’ throwin’ Molotov cocktails through shop windows.

Zeta, bein’ the brave badass warrior she is, commanded them ta stop. Unfortunatlee they didn’t very well like that much. Callin’ her a filthy savage was the least of the insults. So then before she could do much, Mako took her aside, explaining who exactly the True Durisians are.

Puttin’ himself in tha open was probably not Mako’s best idea. See, his dad usedta be the leader of Milturn, the capital of Duros. This meant they didn’t much care for for Mako. Tha leeder, a man called Solivan Oakenshield, recognized him an’ ordered his men ta kill Mako and tha rest of us.

Thus ensued one uv tha bloodiest battles I’ve seen. I almost thought tha heroes were gonna die! Thankfully they didn’t, and took down Solivan. With Solivan’s last breath, he vowed more would return to kill Mako. Tha two remainin’ dwarves grabbed his body an’ made off, but tha heroes turned there attention to tha city.

Peeple began ta emerge frum there houses an’ make there way ta tha heroes. One woman asked who they were, since they’d just saved tha town an’ all.

Vadric stepped forth and announced “We are the Guardians of Albasar!” Peeple cheered, throo celebrations that night and generallee reveered tha heroes, or shall I say “Guardians”.

All the rage

So after retrieving the gem stone for the now dead Mayor, we decided to take on the now weakened Dragonsreach bandits and clear that off our plate. We traveled for most of the day and got to the cave entrance at nightfall and sent in Mako and Vadric to scout out ahead.

After a few minutes, we heard Mako yell “It’s a bedroom!”, at which we charged in, hearing the clash of blades down the tunnel. But the bandits made a horrible judgement call: They made the tunnels too small! We had to go single file and play leap frog over each other in order to get anywhere.

Once the bedroom was clear, Mako shape-changed into a rat and squeezed into the room and squeaked seven times, notifying us that there were seven men in the room, once again bringing the wrath of the enemy on him. Cat-woman, who had transformed into a wolf, broke down the door and caught the men by surprise.

Once again, being caught in the hallway with Zeta and Nostroos, we could only look over Phedra’s shoulder and cheer on the combatants. We were, once again, presented with a closed door. When Vadric knocked, of all things, he managed to fool the bandit leader into coming in. Phedra barged in again, and almost got herself caught. Again. But she lured the guards out to the main room and they were quickly dispatched.

By this time, my lust for battle and my rage was so great that I stepped over the toppled over Vadric and Cat-woman, I whipped out a shuriken and decapitated the leader with one strike. After looting everything we could, Orion set up a hidden camp in the cave so that we could continue searching the cave. Things certainly getting interesting with this group.
